Standard bathroom hand air-dryers - just wrong

Look - we as human beings have lived with these pieces of shit long enough, seriously.  99% of the models in restaurants/movie theaters/coffee shops/bars/every place else are ones similar to the World Dryer (http://www.worlddryer.com/) models or even lamer.  These ridiculous pieces of machinery accomplish nothing they are intended to accomplish (dry your hands in any sense of reasonable time) and just waste energy as 90% of the time you just walk out wiping your hands on your pants.  Or, just as common, you see people refusing to wash their hands in the first place because there's no way to actually dry them without use of said pants.

There are exceptions of course - places like Scotty's Brewhouse's (http://www.scottysbrewhouse.com/) and a few airports I've been in use killer devices like the the Dyson Airblade (http://www.dysonairblade.com) and I've been in a handful of bars that use Xlerator's (http://www.exceldryer.com).  Those are hand air dryers that seriously are intended to dry hands in a timeframe that makes sense.

Why the old hand air dryers are still bought, used escapes me honestly.  Serious market pressure needs to fix the situation.  It's pathetic at this point, honestly..

Pre-thxgiving dinner beach play #fb

Cimg0054

It's beautiful, sunny, warm.  We went to the beach (like 50 yards from Josh/Justine's door) and apparently, much to my complete astonishment, Addison loves that activity and we couldn't keep her out of the water.

Justine made some beer bread, the beans are snapped and soaking in water, turkey is in the oven, potatoes are being de-eyed and cut, josh is out for a run, and Finding Nemo is on the TV.

Much more cooking to be done, but eating and cooking is in full swing at this juncture.

Pre-thxgiving meal.. #fb

We found a fun local fish joint in Surf City, just south of where josh and justine live.  Most of the places here are fairly empty, think it's a factor of thxgiving and it not being in "season".

I had a fresh tuna steak, freshly caught today, it was good and naturally overcooked.  But definitely not unhappy, this is fun and the food is fun.

Said biscuit making in progress... #fb

Cimg0044

Thing is abt biscuit making - it's actually more forgiving than one thinks (and is advertised by our mothers/grandmothers), mistakes wise.  Which, is a good thing because I tend to make some damn mistakes every time and it pisses me off to no end.  Anyway, this biscuit dough has to sit in a cooler for a few hours and I hope they turn out ok, we'll see.

But, I *love* making biscuits, it's a very satisfying activity actually.

At the Upland Tasting Room in so-bro.. (thx @uplandindy)

..enjoying a flight of beers, really like the vibe.  It's a bit chilly as they have the air conditioning blowing at hurricane speed, you all know how much I love that noise.  But, music on the speakers rocks and I do like that mucho.

Having pilsner, ipa, and pale ale.  Not a huge fan of the pilsner, tastes a lot like hoegarten (sp?) to me, which I don't generally like.  But love the others and I'm aways a huge huge fan of their bad elmer's porter.

Just so glad this place is here though.  Need more of this stuff locally..

Experimental roasting of coffee beans still in parchment

Cimg0032

As I'm pretty much out of green (unroasted) coffee beans right now, I'm doing an experimental roasting of costa rican beans that haven't been dry milled and are still in their parchment shell.  Tom from sweet maria's (http://www.sweetmarias.com) has been playing roasting, grinding in this form, thought I'd give it a shot.

Tricky part, apparently, is getting the roast level right as you can't actually see how far the green beans are roasted and don't know exactly when to stop.  It'll be a bit of a guessing game based on some pics tom posted.

Just put through a big order for green coffee beans this morning, got some good stuff, can't wait for it to arrive..

Landing in Frankfurt now..

It's about 7:10am.  Was a very rough trip here. These seats, for me, are incredibly uncomfortable. And, I just feel like shit.

I only have a couple of hours before the next flight, which is good.  But of course have a damn 4 hour layover in chicago, will be so close to home..

Fab India - love those fun clothes

Img00411-20091028-1924

So, last night made a stop at 'Fab India', a simple chain store in India that sells handmade, very reasonably priced clothes, scarves, jewlery, etc.  I bought a handful of shirts/khurdas for the women and a short khurda for myself.

Apparently this regions monsoon season is late starting this year, but is starting right about now.  It's rained really hard several times and because the ground is already saturated, the streets are often covered with really large "lakes" of water.  One of the results is that traffic slows down dramatically and travel around the city is horrendously slow, just painful.

We're extremely busy, non-stop work, no downtime as of yet this week.  The week is going very quickly and I'm very tired all the time at this point.  One more day of heavy work activities and then will be flying home..

Tues morn, starting work..

Bombay_ness

Finally getting down to business this morning at a vendor's office.
Interesting view out of the offices here - on the left there is a
small river and neat vegetation (albeit, a bit polluted) and on the
right there's a small tent city, which are very common throughout the
city.

Feel great today, I've gotten fairly used to acclimating to the time
changes quickly.

Had a great dinner last night and a huge breakfast buffet this
morning. We're staying at the J.W. Mariott, it's beautiful and the
food is tremendously good.

We're travelling to Chennai this afternoon and will be there for the
next few days. Naturally, I only packed 1 pair of pants (other than
my travel pants), just forgot to put my other pants in the bag.
So...need to find a store or something someplace to get another pair
of pants, what a pain in the ass.
